sixty-nine. today is a day for the history books [20 Jan 2009|06:11pm]
[ mood | ecstatic ]

"Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America."
- Barack Obama

I don't care who you are. I don't care what race you are, what religion you are or what sex you are. It doesn't matter what your age is, what your political party is...doesn't matter where you live, who you love, what you do. Today was a day for the history books.

Today, former Senator Barack Obama was sworn in as our 44th president. Today, we, as the United States of America, witnessed the inauguration of our first African-American president. Today, Barack Obama made history with a 20 minute speech on how he plans to change America. In said speech he gave hope - hope to those who doubted him when he first announced he was running for president. Hope to those who continued to doubt him as he ran in one of the most historical president races of all time. Hope to all those who continue to doubt him, who continue to believe he isn't what our country needs.

"That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet. "

Barack Obama is what our country needs. And one day, you all will see that, whether you voted for him, whether you didn't vote for him, or whether you plain just don't care. Obama is going to change the face of these United States of America. I believe in him, such as he believes in us as a country.

"Now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions - who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans. Their memories are short. For they have forgotten what this country has already done; what free men and women can achieve when imagination is joined to common purpose, and necessity to courage."

Barack Obama, I believe, is the face of a new America. He will bring us back where we need to be, both economically and emotionally. We need change, and Obama is the face, the very definition of change for us.

I feel bad for those of you who are too stubborn to see that Obama is the right man for the job. I cannot believe that people are so blind that they believe moving to "Canada" is a more suitable option than seeing what Obama can and will do for our country. The fact that there are people out there who would rather have a white president who will do our country worse than a black president who knows what we need, well that just blows my mind. Barack Obama will bring change to our country. Just wait and see.

"America. In the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words. With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations. "
